Owl Eyes Are Fixed in Place

An owl's eyes are so large that they take up a huge portion of the skull, and unlike human eyes they cannot roll or shift in their sockets. To compensate, an owl can rotate its head roughly 270 degrees, scanning a wide area without ever moving its body.

Silent Flight Feathers

The leading edge of an owl's wing feathers has a soft, comb-like fringe that breaks up turbulent air and muffles the sound of flapping. That near-silent flight lets many owl species swoop down on prey like mice and voles without giving any advance warning.
