Why the Cabin Sits So Far Forward

Mid-engine cars push the passenger cabin toward the front axle because the engine and transaxle take up the space behind the seats, and the NSX outline shows that clearly: a short front overhang, a long midsection, and a cabin that ends well before the rear wheels. That layout also explains the two prominent scoops on the rear quarter panels, which feed cooling air directly to the engine bay sitting just behind the doors.

A Supercar Built for Everyday Driving

Honda's original design brief for the NSX specifically asked for a supercar that could be driven comfortably every day, unlike many Italian exotics of the era that demanded constant maintenance. That goal shaped the smooth, uncluttered body panels seen in this outline: no vents or scoops beyond what the engine truly needed, a philosophy Honda called "everyday exotic" that still guides the current car's clean lines.

Why the Nose Sits So Low
