The Titan reads as a full-size truck in outline alone: a tall upright hood, a wide grille opening stretched between big rectangular headlights, and a long bed set well behind an extended cab. That extra-tall stance is no accident, since Nissan built the Titan specifically to match the size and towing muscle of the American half-ton trucks it competes against, not to shrink down like Nissan's smaller Frontier.

A 2003 Answer to the American Half-Ton

Nissan launched the first Titan for the 2004 model year, its first attempt at a genuine full-size pickup built to compete directly with the Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado, and Dodge Ram on their own turf. Until then Nissan had only sold the smaller Frontier, so the Titan needed a completely new platform, frame, and V8 engine to compete.
