Ram 1500 TRX Coloring Sheet History & Fun Facts
A Truck Nicknamed T-Rex
Ram engineers called their high-speed desert-racing prototype "T-Rex" during development, and when the production truck launched for the 2021 model year, the TRX badge kept that nickname alive. The name fit: at 6,350 pounds, it was the heaviest and widest half-ton pickup Ram had ever sold.
A Supercharged Answer To The Raptor
Ram built the TRX specifically to out-muscle the Ford F-150 Raptor, and it did that with a supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8 borrowed from the Hellcat parts bin. That engine made 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque, numbers that let a full-size pickup hit 60 mph in about 4.5 seconds.
Suspension Built For Jumping Dunes
Bilstein Black Hawk e2 adaptive dampers give the TRX roughly 13 inches of front wheel travel and 14 inches in the rear, nearly double what a standard Ram 1500 offers. That extra travel is what lets the truck land hard off a whoop-de-do in the desert without bottoming out.
Widebody Fenders And 35-Inch Tires
The TRX widebody kit stretches almost 8 inches past a regular Ram 1500's body panels, giving the wheel wells enough clearance for 35-inch all-terrain tires on 18-inch beadlock-capable wheels. Standard ground clearance climbs to 11.8 inches, enough to ford 32 inches of water.
A Short Production Run
Ram built the TRX for just four model years, from 2021 through 2024, before folding the nameplate into a smaller turbocharged inline-six halo truck. That short run makes the supercharged V8 version a specific slice of Ram history, built only while the Hellcat engine family was still in production.
Speed Traded For Towing
All that widebody muscle came with a trade-off: the TRX towed up to about 8,100 pounds and carried roughly 1,310 pounds of payload, both lower numbers than a standard Ram 1500. Ram tuned the TRX for speed across rough terrain rather than for hauling a heavy trailer, which is why its suspension favors long-travel shock absorbers over stiff towing springs.
Tested In The Desert
Ram engineers put TRX prototypes through high-speed desert testing in places like the Mojave, chasing the same kind of punishment off-road race trucks see during events like the Baja 1000. That testing shaped the truck's skid plates, underbody armor, and reinforced frame sections long before the first customer trucks reached dealer lots.
Following The Rebel's Lead
Before the TRX arrived, Ram had already tested the off-road pickup market with the Ram Rebel, a milder trim with a blacked-out grille and modest suspension lift introduced for 2015. The Rebel proved there was strong demand for a rugged half-ton, paving the way for Ram's engineers to go all-in on a true high-speed performance truck a few years later.
Drive Modes For Every Surface
A rotary dial let TRX drivers switch between Auto, Sport, Tow, Snow, Mud/Sand, Rock, and Baja drive modes, each one changing throttle response, transmission shift points, and suspension damping. Baja mode was built specifically for high-speed desert running, loosening traction control and sharpening throttle response for driving flat-out across open terrain.
