Mazda CX-5
A compact crossover SUV with smooth flowing sculpted body lines, a wide trapezoidal grille, slim swept-back headlights, a gently arched roofline.
About this design
Mazda introduced the CX-5 in 2012 for the 2013 model year as the first vehicle to carry the brand's full SKYACTIV suite of lightweight body, chassis, and engine technology, a package engineers had spent years developing to cut weight without cutting strength.
The CX-5 was also the first Mazda production vehicle to wear the brand's Kodo design language, a styling philosophy built around flowing, muscle-like sculpted surfaces meant to suggest motion even while the crossover sits parked in a driveway like the one shown in this outline.
Mazda's designers translate Kodo as soul of motion, a phrase meant to capture the sense that a car's body should look alive and ready to move, inspiring the smooth creases and minimal panel lines traced across this CX-5 outline instead of sharp, blocky edges.
