Toyota Sienna Coloring Sheet History & Fun Facts
A Minivan Named After A City In Italy
Toyota borrowed the name Sienna from the Italian city of Siena, adding an extra n to fit its naming style, when it launched the minivan for the 1998 model year. It replaced the smaller, rear-engined Previa, giving Toyota a more conventional front-engine minivan to compete directly with the Dodge Caravan and Honda Odyssey.
Built In The Same Plant As The Highlander
Toyota assembles the Sienna at its Princeton, Indiana plant, the same factory that builds the three-row Highlander SUV. Sharing a factory with a popular SUV lets Toyota shift production between the two family-hauling models depending on which one buyers want most in a given year.
The Only Minivan With A Hybrid-Only Lineup
The fourth-generation Sienna, which arrived for 2021, dropped its gas-only engine entirely and became hybrid-only, a first among mainstream minivans. Every Sienna since then pairs a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with electric motors, delivering minivan-best fuel economy without asking families to plug in overnight.
All-Wheel Drive Without A Driveshaft
Instead of a mechanical driveshaft running to the back axle, the all-wheel-drive Sienna uses a separate electric motor mounted at the rear to spin the back wheels independently of the front-mounted gas-electric powertrain, a setup called e-AWD that adds traction without the weight of a traditional driveshaft system.
Nicknamed The Swagger Wagon
Toyota's marketing team leaned into minivan stereotypes with a 2010-2011 ad campaign that nicknamed the Sienna the Swagger Wagon, featuring a rapping suburban dad in a series of viral commercials that tried to make minivan ownership look cool instead of embarrassing.
Sliding Doors On Both Sides
Like every minivan competitor, the Sienna uses power sliding doors on both sides of the body rather than swing-out doors, letting passengers load kids, strollers, and groceries in a tight parking spot without worrying about a door swinging into the car next to it.
Seating That Adapts To The Trip
Second-row captain's chairs, a bench seat option, and a fold-flat third row let Sienna owners rearrange the cabin for eight passengers, a cargo run, or anything in between, a flexibility that has made the model a favorite for long road trips and daily carpool duty alike.
A Low Roofline Compared To SUVs
Even fully loaded with three rows of passengers, the Sienna sits noticeably lower to the ground than a three-row SUV like the Highlander or Sequoia, a car-based ride height that makes it easier for young kids to climb in and out on their own without a big step up, while still leaving plenty of headroom for adults in all three rows.
A Family Road Trip Favorite For Decades
Wide sliding door openings, a flat load floor behind the third row, and a low step-in height have made the Sienna a repeat pick for families who spend weekends hauling soccer gear, camping equipment, or grandparents on long highway drives, tasks a taller three-row SUV can handle but rarely as easily through a sliding door that opens with the push of a button from across the driveway.
