Dodge picked the Durango name to evoke the rugged mountain town of Durango, Colorado, tying the SUV to an image of open roads and outdoor adventure long before the truck itself ever left the design studio. That Western naming theme fits neatly alongside other Dodge and Ram truck names like Ram, Dakota, and Power Wagon, all chosen to sound tough and outdoorsy rather than sleek or urban.
