Baby Ghost with Lantern
One tiny round ghost with big sparkling eyes and a wavy bottom edge.
About this design
Traditional ghost stories described spirits as pale, sheet-covered figures meant to unsettle listeners, an image that stretches back centuries in folklore across many cultures. Twentieth century cartoons and children's books gradually softened that same basic shape, rounding the edges, adding big expressive eyes, and giving ghosts warm smiles instead of blank, haunting stares, turning a once-eerie figure into one of the most approachable characters in kids' seasonal artwork.
Cartoon ghosts are almost always drawn with a soft, scalloped or wavy bottom edge instead of straight legs, a shorthand that suggests the classic bedsheet-ghost costume without needing any additional detail. That wavy line also gives the character a floating, weightless feel, helping a still illustration suggest gentle movement even though nothing on the page is actually animated.
This scene is an easy first Halloween page for toddlers and younger preschoolers just starting to learn seasonal shapes.
