Four Decades Between Fixed-Roof Z06 Coupes

Chevy revived the Z06 name in 2001 on the C5 generation as a lightweight fixed-roof coupe powered by the LS6 V8. The C6 Z06 followed in 2006 with an aluminum frame and a 7.0-liter LS7 engine making 505 horsepower, the first Z06 to wear the flared fenders that later became a signature of the badge. The C7 Z06, sold from 2015 to 2019, added a supercharger and 650 horsepower.

General Motors developed a full race version of the Z06 for IMSA and international GT3 competition, sharing the LT6 engine's basic architecture with the street car sold at dealers. That link between showroom and racetrack echoes the original 1963 Z06 package, which Chevrolet built specifically so private racers could compete in SCCA events without ordering a fully custom car from a specialty shop.

Carbon Fiber Where It Counts Most

Optional carbon-fiber panels for the hood, rear spoiler, and wheels shave weight in places that matter most for handling, since cutting unsprung mass at the wheels helps the suspension react faster to bumps and mid-corner ruts. Chevrolet also offers a magnetically adjustable suspension that reads road conditions dozens of times per second and stiffens or softens each wheel independently, a system first developed for the Cadillac CTS-V and refined for Corvette duty.

Chevrolet builds the Z06 at the Bowling Green Assembly plant in Kentucky, the same factory that has produced every Corvette since 1981. Each LT6 engine is hand-assembled there by a single technician who signs a plaque under the hood, a tradition carried over from the Corvette's small-block V8 engines.
